New Zealand Radiata

New Zealand’s establishment of exotic forests began early in the 20th Century with mostly softwood species. Current figures place the total area of managed production forests at 1.7 million hectares, with 90% of this area planted in Radiata Pine.

New Zealand’s Radiata Pine resource is relatively young, with over 60% fifteen years old or less. However, it is a very fast growing species compared with other softwoods, as the average age at harvest is 28 years. New Zealand Pine is a high quality resource; 62% of the forests have been pruned, the vast majority are managed in recognition of the interdependence of ecological, economic and social sustainability principles under an accord between industry and environmental groups.

New Zealand Radiata Pine is strong, versatile and sustainable with the clear pruned trunks producing high quality timber best suited for housing, furniture and all forms of show wood applications.
